“Dear Friend,
I am a biomedical research scientist and I am contacting you in my capacity as coordinator of a European research consortium for the study of a protein called GATA-1 (the GATAnet consortium).
Briefly, GATA-1 fulfils important functions in blood cells and has been associated with the high incidence of leukemias observed with trisomy 21 in Down Syndrome children. An important part of the research consortium will be dedicated to investigating this connection. We are presently in the process of putting together a proposal to the European Union for obtaining funding to support the research activities of the consortium. If funded, the consortium will recruit a number (more than 10) of young researchers (PhD students, postdoctoral Fellows, young MDs) to conduct research. Also an important part of the consortium is to educate and train these young scientists through the organization by the consortium of a series of conferences and workshops.”
